Have '63 Z06 split window that was Cal. car brought to IL. in '84 and has sat in barn ever since. Car is all there but you can imagine what 20 years of a barn did to it. Has big tank. Was offered $35,000 10 years ago. Looking for ideas on present worth.

by all there - assume has finned drums, scintered metallic brake pads, fans, screen backing plates, elephant ears, dual-line master cylinder, 80 lb PSI oil meter, L84 360 horse fuellie, on and on - documentation? scale of 1-4 where would you rate (1 being little work, 4 being uh?)???? - if I was looking to buy would say $50,000 - $75000 would be reasonable offer I would make, but of course would like to buy even less than that, as sight unseen!

Rick

when i read the first post on this I immediatally thaought of you than saw you already responded.
Are you already looking for a sister for LADY??
LOL
You think Tony is ready for another restoration on a '63 Z06?! Wish I could hear that conversation when you asked him.
:)

I will be documenting all pertinent info--vin etc very soon to help with value. 327 is not original--car will have to be looked at by pro to determine brake options. I will check master cyl. oil pres guage etc Thursday and post findings. I would rate car a savable 2-but it deserves total frame off.

It could be a cool project for someone if the frame is solid. Unfortunately restorations are just that, "Projects", not investments. You need a buyer that looking to take something on. The costs of parts and labor are usually greater than the finished value of the car. The price of a paint job alone is staggering. So don't expect to sell it for anything near price of a finished car.
Even with that said; C2's are great and there are people who love to restore them. I know I would enjoy it but I wouldn't even have the cash to start one unless I could work some sort of trade for the initial shell.

There is a whole group of 63 ZO-6 collectors that will be interested in the car. i am going to Bloomington Gold , in St. Charles,IL on June 20. Driving back. May I stop by and look at the car?
thx,
jim gessner

Jim,

We can go look at the car together, if you want - call me on my cell when you get into Bloomington, as I will have my just restored 1963 Z06 there - 443-306-4341 - staying at the Hilton across the street from the field

Jim,

I plan on arriving on Wednesday also. Steve Westlund is the gentleman I have been exchanging email with on the Z06. He is trying to help a friend of his (actual owner) sell the car - will fill you in on all the details when we talk. or send me your email at c5vetter@cablespeed.com

Hey, guys,

Have fun, and make sure to report back with all the details...don't leave us hanging!;)

I will be showing car to multiple prospects the week before Bloomington at St. Charles.
The more we verify the more we know--today discovered screens in front brakes.
I will let the CAC know the outcome for it is the CAC members who have already been so much help in checking this car out. Thanks guys.

Steve,

would hope you have the "screened" backing plates at all four corners! that is one of the significant tell-tales of a big-brake car

We sprayed rear drums with WD-40 and tapped on them with hammer -but they didn't come loose yet. We need to back off adjuster and then we can see. Fronts are screened so I'm betting rears are too. Just an originality plus for car that will be getting restoration anyway-I hope. So far the only thing missing is the original engine / with FI unit and finned front drums. 60 psi oil guage could be anomaly. Everything else is the way it came from factory. Built may 14th 1963. Trim tag 13
7919 Body 63-837 style 936A paint 898A trim. VIN 30837S115092

This car has found a new home. Big thanks to Jim Gessner aka Vettefinderjim.

We hope to see this rare car back on the road. Thanks all Steve

Car was looked over by the pro's. Was authentic California 63 ZO6 tanker. Engine, FI, S-tube etc missing. Screened brake backing plates in tact but missing adj. springs, shoes, fans, etc. Car sat in barn for last 20 years. Car was purchased for 35K. Hope to see it restored and back out and around in the future. Mecum sold one at Bloomington Gold this year for $ 247,000. The 63 ZO6 in the Calloway room was to drool on.

Steve and owner Chan, were real pro's

It was a pleasure working with nice, honest people who went out of their way to show me and some friends the car. On Wed, June 23, we confirmed it is a 'real' 63 ZO-6 big tank car, not listed in the survay......but is now. It is white with saddle LEATHER and no radio. The right front wheel well has had some body damage from what appears to be a tire explosion. The rest of the body is in very good, undamaged condition.

All four backing plates still have the dust covers on them so 41 years of dirt hid the screens from the back. The ZO-6 shoes, hardware and fin drums are missing. The motor is a non original Chevelle or? 327. The trans and rear are the original.

Water got into the cockpit some time in its life and there is rust under the dash, and in the birdcage. The chassis is surprisinly in good condition, with light surface rust only.

All in all, a very nice project. Only 72 big tank Z0-6'S were made and this one deserves to come back. I have located two brake packages, and am bent over as I type this. I also know of a complete 327 fuel injection engine, from the top of the air meter to the tail shaft of the transmission that was a complete crate unit with factory stamps and no vin. Only $10,000. Trouble is the dates are Jan 25, and this is a May car. Too early for sure, but shows once you start looking, things show up. That engine has 2500 miles on it and runs like new. ( anyone looking??)

In a quick two weeks, a lot has happened. The new buyer has asked to not be identified, so don't ask. I will say that the car will be restored........and that is the impossible task......but sure neat that one of these great pieces of history is going to come back. Keep looking guys, they still exist.

I even got lucky again at Bloomington. Found a 24000 mile 1968 Camaro Z-28 from Nickey Chevrolet. It was drag raced and put away in the early 70's. Now I have to get it back to California.

Save the Wave,
Jim
