This car has a pilot bushing that is about 1.054". The only thing I can find for a Chevy is 1.094" What gives with this engine?
Thanks,

Can't help much, only speculate... aftermarket crank, maybe?

The correct small block pilot bearing OD is 1.094, the size you are finding (with .594 ID). Have you actually removed the old one to measure it at 1.054?

Gm (and speed shops) sell a roller bearing pilot that is recommended as a superior replacement (about $15, I think).

Interesting.....

I just replaced the pilot on my 327 and I was told all small blocks take the same pilot. I did find the one they tried to sell me was not brass so I had them find me a brass one. Also interesting, I was told by a local GM dealer and two auto parts stores along with an engine building friend that the roller bearing was not advised for long time use but more along the lines of a racing engine. I guess it all depends on who you talk to.:upthumbs

I love these stories about the GM needle roller bearing; that bearing was designed specifically for use with manual transmission diesel trucks for long-term durability. Owners of revenue-producing diesel trucks that don't need overhauls until they see 250,000 miles don't like tearing them down before that to replace a $6.00 bronze bushing - that's why they all have the needle roller bearing. I've used them in countless race and street cars since they became available, and have never had a problem with any of them.
