I have a 69 with a gas guage that points always to about 1/4 past full. It never moves whether the car if off or on or no matter how much gas is in the car. How would I find out whether it is the guage, wiring or sending unit? Is there anything I can measure to see if the sending unit is giving me a proper or any signal? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have read some of the others

I have read of the other posts and they talk about replacing the sending unit. Without replacing the unit isn't there a way to put a meter on the unit and see if it is sending anything. I'm not sure if it works on resistance like the temperature guage but it seems to me that I could try to measure something before I take out the unit.

Perfect, perfect, perfect. John thanks so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Once again the people of this forum come through for me. Thanks.

You could try using a coat hanger and pulling up on the float and see if it changes the gauge any at all. My 70 has a large opening to the gas tank. I am sure your 69 has the same. You should be able to see the float so it should make it easy to pull the float up and see the change.

Let us know what you find.
