Hi, New to this forum and new owner of my first Corvette.
I see that there were less than 5000 convertibles but how do you know how many were like mine, 454 with air, power brakes ,power steering, delux leather interior.
Thanks
The blunt answer is that nobody knows, including GM. No records were kept regarding combination of options. If it makes you feel better, since Corvettes were low production cars and had an extensive option list, just about every Corvette is a one of a kind
The power steering isn't likely to be a factor because of the 30,464 vettes produced in '73, almost 28,000 has P/S, and the another two-thirds had A/C.
However, as you stated, 'verts numbered less than 5000. The LS4 engine also only showed up in 4412 of the total 34000 produced, about 13%.
If you use that 13% as your number and assume the same ratio was used in vert sales, then you've got 13% of 5000, which is 650.
Sooo....you could be part of a 650 of 34000 crowd, which a mere 1.8%
Of course that's all hogwash because it's all silly speculation. The rarest option you have is the LS4 454ci. So you are at least doing OK there. If I were you I'd figure somewhere you're somewhere around the "Less than 1 in 10 produced" area... Not bad, but impossible to know for sure!
I have always wondered if there was a way to find out how many of a certain car was registered. I know there is a case of a few cars sitting in a barn or something and haven't been on the road in a while. However it would give us a closer estimate. Right now I am not to concerned with my vette, it still has a lot of time to appreciate. Although my 73 Trans Am is what has me curious. I know I am 1 out of 1420, but that is it. How many were Buccaneer Red like mine? I have not been able to find out. I just thought it would be neat if anybody had a way to find out how many of these rare cars are on the road.
