I have found a very nice 73 convertible, 76K miles, factory air, and a 350 motor. The air conditioning is a must in the desert. I am looking for any knowledge on this year other than the horsepower sucks.

Has anyone rebuilt or changed out this motor for a higher rated HP engine? If so do you have the spec's that you used.

Any known problems with this year?

He is asking $20K, which seems high to me. Any help would be appreciated.

$20K ????? maybe 20,000 fifty cent pieces if its immaculate....73's didnt have much HP 190....... can be built nicely as I have a 73 built nicely....fun car though but NOT for 20K...

No Way !! $20,000 would buy a later year no problem.. Don't do it!!

Thanks,
The guy is a neighbor of a friend. The friend thought he was asking $12K, quite a sticker shock when he said $20K. Especially for a small block.

Any idea what top dollar would be?

$10k

Joe

I spent a year looking for a quality 73 here in Phoenix-- one flakey guy in Tempe only knew that his 73 t-top "had a V-8" and was frustrated when I pressed him for "which one?" Hawks had one on E-Bay, but when we actually saw the car, it was hard to imagine it was the same thing - - ditto at Chev's & Vettes-- over-priced or major disappointments. But $20k ?? It better be concours for that price...$10 - $13 is more like it.
I ended up with a 74 from Tulsa-- but w/a 72 LT-1 engine.
Take a peek at this one on E-Bay:

20K Corvette (and the streets are paved with gold!)

Hi: Depends what's been done to it. If that '73's original & never been touched, with 76K miles on it the answer would be No, it's not worth 20K. However, if the drive train has been gone through, & if it's got a real nice classy paint job, then that price could become more realistic. Good pristine paint jobs on a vette could cost as high as 10K alone. Don't worry though, you'll never get a true concours vette. Those are unrealistic.

One thing I'd check on that car is the frame & the pillar posts, Also, check the very bottom of the inside doors; below the door panel.

And, the headlight front end brace located just inside the front of the hood opening.

These places will tell you how much the car is really worth.

Good luck on you quest to find that "good" Corvette

Peace: Dave

Hi: That '73 listed on E-bay, sez it has 8235 miles. Yeah, right! Read the description. It sez that the top end of the motor has been rebuilt 8000 miles ago. Let's see, engine had major engine work at 235 miles! HMMMMMMMMM. That's interesting. Funny how it has no warranty. Vette may be a nice one just the same, but alittle investagating would be warranted on this one. I'd go to "carfax" on this one. Maybe the miles listed are those that have been put on the car since all of the work listed in the description was done, but I'd like to know the real milage. Just something to think about. But, the "BIN" price seem real reasonable.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I will print this out and take a harder look at it again before making an offer.

Like I said originally my friend thought he was asking $12K. It has had an $8k paint job and the tranny has been rebuilt along with a new pressure plate.

Heck I only paid $14,500 for a 1986 Convertible with 20K miles. Okay so it was my first one and I was blinded buy desire.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Tom

I have a 73 and it was in storage for 20 years when I came opon it and your right about the low horsepower but it is a light car. I love passing gas stations more then I do passing mustangs.

Hummmm.....$20K seems way high to me. For that price you could get a VERY nice big block. Since you did not say what engien will assume that it has the L48. If so, you should be able to get a perfect one for $15K and a very nice driver for $10K.

tom...

My friend is taking all of the post that I have received and using them as leverage to try and get his neighbor back to reality. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again for all of your help. Tom

No Way.........Way to much money for a 73 :nono :( :eek
