Just curious, I have a 1976 L-48. It's all stock, numbers matching. I was wondering about the valve covers. It has aluminum covers with fins with a circular red corvette logo. Most pictures I've seen show the valve covers as orange and matching the engine block. Does anybody know which is correct? Maybe both depending on the build date.

Thanks for any input.

L-48s had stamped steel covers painted orange. L-82s had covers similar to what you have installed. No known exceptions.

Must have been a previous owner who swapped them.

Ed, when I got my '76' L-48 it had the exact same valve covers your's does, alum with fins. Well I was replacing the gaskets and one of the covers cracked and pice fell out, I believe it was the drivers side, so if anything ever happens to you passage side one I have a replacement, I went with chrome covers and they look real sharp.

I believe the stock ones are the painted orange, that is what my books all say.
