Can anyone with experience in this area provide a view as to whether this engine is likely to be genuinely the one installed at the factory in the car that I now have here in Australia. As you can see in the picture, the engine number details are slightly worn of the pad and are not on the pad straight. The other pics are of the casting details.

Many thanks in advance for anyone who can productively contribute information.

V0723ZAH is a correct Corvette engine code and breaks down as:
V plant code for Flint, Michgan engine assembly plant
0723 July 23 date engine was assembled in Flint
ZAH 350 L-48 with automatic transmission

The second stamp looks like 19S4X2176 which breaks down as:
1 Corvette
9 year of manufacture (1979)
S plant code for St. Louis, Missouri
4X2176 consecutive unit number.

The 4X2176 should match the last six digits of your VIN. If they match, the engine is probably original.

Many thanks for your contribution Mike.

If the consecutive unit number is in fact 452178 then it is the right number for the car. I think the last character is an 8 for sure so the question is really whether the second character could be a five.

The thing that worries me the most is the angle the consecutive unit number is on and whether or not having the number stamped like that is unusual or not.

Thanks again

Bernie

I took another look and I agree. Looks like 452178. Congratulations.

You're okay. Nothing unusual about the angle of the stamp. It was put there by a human being working on an assembly line.

The time you have taken to look into this for me is really appreciated.

Removed the engine and installed a crate engine due to this one having a bit of an oil burn problem, nothing major. Will now take the time to do qaulity rebuild and reinstall this sometime in the futrue.

Thanks heaps again. Have a great day.

Bernie
