My 1979 was stolen when it was newer, it has since had a state assigned vin. I am sure there is another "hidden" location for the vin but I don't know where it is. I checked the engine & it is a L82, the transmission is date correct so I assume that is original as well. The "replacement" speedo has 45k on it & ball joints are original. Looking at the usual signs such as frame, gas pedal, etc the car looks to be low mileage. I would love to find the vin so I can finnish my research on this issue. The car has the L82 tach & badges, so I'm calling it a L82. Could someone send me a private message pointing out a location for me. I still have to drop the tank, I can see the build sheet but it will be a while before I get that done. Thanks.

The engine, transmission, and frame have a number that contains the last 5 or 6 digits of the VIN. That is if thay are original. On the engine it is on the stamp pad, a machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head. On the trans, believe it is somewhere around the tailshaft flange but not sure (am sure that someone her knows), and on the frame it is on top of the drivers side frame rail at the top of the rear wheel arch (real tight in there and will need small mirror to see it).

Good Luck Hunting :)
