Ohhhhhhkay then. I got my Vette home today after making the deal a week ago, and Im starting to see what all I am in for. Im still in love with it. : ) Also should I post each question in a diferient thread or keep them together? I dont want to overload the system, whats the format for posting here, Im a newbee.

Here are my issues.
1. Who knew there is a factory car alarm? Not me, I locked the drivers door and opened the passenger door and the horn went off. I could not get it to stop, i tried unlocking the drivers door, I tried to crank it but seems it killed the starter, only way I could stop it was unhook the battery, the neighbors really loved that 10 minute car alarm. : ) WHo can tell me about the 1981 alarm and how it works, arm and disarm etc. I dont have a clue.

2. Check Engine light came on on the drive home. I checked the usuals, and it was not over heating, and oil is fine, it would go off when i dropped down to 35, but when I hit 45 it woudl come on and stay on. All the gauges say temp and pressure are fine, and I belive that. what else could it be? Air sensor or EGR Valve may be?

3. Where can I get a replacement jack for the car?

4. Where can I snag a copy of the users manual for the 1981?

Much appreciate the help, ESPECIALLY about the car alarm if you can help me there.

1. To disarm the alarm use driver side door and insert key...play with it, turn left first then up next right to unlock it.

3. Try E-bay

4. Talk to Rare81(Bud) or come to.. Corvettes at Carlisle in August and you will find it (manual).

Hope this helped you. :w

Welcome to the CAC

1. I had to laugh, the same exact thing happened to me when my '81 was delivered. My son called a local alarm shop which told us how to turn it off.
2. It's not EGR or AIR, I threw those away and still use the ECM to control carb, timing, temp fan and TCC. The fact that it goes off may make it tough to diagnose. You can use a paper clip to short two of the terminals on the diagnostic plug (under ash tray), but I'm not sure it will flash a soft code and it is hard to find anyone with diagnostic computer that will read an '81. (I found an old OTC Monitor 2000 on e-bay for $25 that has been a God send)
4. Don't worry about the user's (owner's?) manual, get an assembly manual (about $25 from any Corvette specialty dealer like Ecklers or Corvette Central etc.) and an original 1981 Corvette GM Service Manual (about $50 on e-bay) Those two should have you set!
Welcome to CAC, You're going to love the car! God bless, Sensei

You didnt mention how to turn it off though!!!! : )
How do you do it?

Mine is blue and silver, two tone.

Do your power locks lock AND unlock? Mine only lock.

How do I set the alarm in the first place? Just use the power door lock switch?
Thanks for all the info, much appreciated!!!

do this it is how you turn it off

to set the alarm, you may either use the key on the drivers door or lock it either power or manually from the drivers door, and it with set itself

as far as your door lock switches...it may not be making contact with one of the switches,I just put new pigtails on mine this year and they did the same thing and last weekend I took the door covers off and when I put them back on,the both were working properly
