1984 Rear window struts

I have a 84 and when I go over the slightest bump I can here the rear hatch rattling. If I replace the two struts, will this correct the problem or must I replace the weather stripping also?

Doesn't sound like a strut problem but that the latch is out of adjustment and not latching the window tightly enough against the weatherstrip or the upper hinge is loose. The struts are only used to help lift and hold the hatch in the open position. If you're struts hold the hatch up, they're fine.

I would suggest replacing the weatherstripping...only about 100 bucks. You won't believe how tight that window will become once new stripping is installed.

Thank you, when I pop the hatch it will open on it's own about half way, but when I lift it fully open it will stay open. I'll go with the weatherstripping and check the latch.

I have an '84, replaced the struts. But never seen these problems you mention?
