My 85 is hard to start. it acts like there is no fuel in rails on start up. It starts rich and then when shut off, it sounds like fuel is running into engine for a few seconds. I have new injectors , and had this same noise with old ones. Could my cold start be leaking all the time? If so would just unplugging it stop the problem , or would it have to be completely removed and plugged off at intake?

I dont have my shop manual around me but that seems kind of low off the top of my head.....

how does fuel pressure look when you cut off the car? does it skyrocket down or does it go down slowly?

Ill have to check on that. My fuel tester leaks, so i dont know how much im leaking down because of that. Im not showing any codes on it.

what kind of injectors are you using? Your fuel tester leaking will not throw a code....you are not refering to the schrader (sp?)valve on the fuel rail are you?

Off the top of my head it almost sounds like a egr/fuel pressure regualtor/ injector issue.

Proabbly not egr due to the leaking injectors.

I had the same problem with hard start a little while back on the 85. I also noticed MPG went from 22 to 19. Checked static and running pressures. I also noticed she would not hold any pressure. Replaced diaphram and put on Hi-Perf regulator. One of the best fixes and upgrades I ever did. Back to 22 MPG, starts like she used to hot or cold, idles better and just plain runs through the RPM's better. I have her set at 42psi running. I have heard of the cold start injectors going South and no longer available. Maybe some NOS is available but my problem was as stated above.
Hope it helps.

you guys with cold start injectors do not need them, even if you live in a cold climate.

You can get a chip to compensate the missing cold start injector. My monster 357 miniram II motor has no cold start injector and starts on the first crank in single digit weather.

I think accel or LPE will sell a cold start injector cap off kit.

I was talking about my guage leaking where conected to the shrader valve. The valve doesnt leak when not hooked up. I did notice that after the car sits a while, i can open the shrader valve and no fuel squirts out . Dont know how long it should hold pressure in the fuel rail.

there should be minimal pressure in the fuel rail after the car has sat for awhile.

C4ever may be onto something with his suggestion.
