I am in need of two 1985 Hood Open Assist Clyinders, would appreciate any one out there responding to this request. They tell me that purchasing new one require purchasing a bracket also, it would be nice, not to do this. Is there an after market product available.

I replaced both of mine with ones from Pepboys for 9.99 each....2 years ago. Still work fine...

You can also get them at a NAPA store. If you are going to convert to the later single gas-assist rod, then brackets are needed.

I replaced the ones on my 86 about two years ago. Like they said, about $10 each. A word of advice - the easiest way to put the new struts on is by unbolting the scissors support from the hood and raising the hood another couple inches. You really want someone helping you here, because the hood is HEAVY and you'll be working at a very awkward angle if you try to support it with one hand and put the struts in with the other. I did it, but in retrospect it was dumb trying it with only one pair of hands.

Replaced mine last year. Both of them from Corvette Central. $19.95 ea+shipping.
What a diifferance it made opening the hood.
