Do chips work, and how do you know if your 1986 corvette is e or l.
 
Welcome to CAC.

That's actually a big question, some claim all most of the "off the shelf chips" do is turn the fans on earlier. Most people in here will recommend getting a custom burned chip to go with any other mods you may have done.

As for the late early thing, do you have center bolt valve covers or side bolt.

The early vettes had the Iron heads with side bolts around the perimeter of the VC, the later vettes and all Verts had aluminum heads with center bolt VC's.

The generic chips are worthless, I wouldnt recommend getting a custom chip until you are done with mods or have changed the camshaft.
