On my 86 there are 4 lamps on the front side of the cluster right above the steering column. They are each covered by a round shinny metal disc that deflects the light back into the cluster. The lamps themselves have two wires poking out that slip into the socket/recepticle. Can someone tell me where to purchase replacements?

Eckler's do not show these lamps on their site.

Thanks

Try a quick search on eBay "Corvette instrument cluster bulbs". You can find full sets for around $20.00.

Are the 4 lamps that are behind the shinny metal deflectors replaced by accessing the back side of the dash cluster? Otherwise the Ebay set does not seem correct.

The ones on ebay are the xenon bulbs. I believe GM went to the xenon bulbs in 1988 to reduce heat. Still, even though they include the socket assembly, I believe you can use only the bulbs. Maybe someone else here can quickly confirm, but I don't think the socket type changed in the LCD cluster from 1984 to 1989.

I neat trick for pulling the old bulbs is to use a small peice of 1/2 inch flexible hose about two inches in length. Remove the metal cover disks (after removing the plastic instrument cluster bezel) and insert the hose over and around the bulb. Squeeze the end of the hose and it will grip the bulb and allow you to pull it out of the socket. For inserting the new bulb, use the same hose to hold and align the bulb. If you can't seat the bulb with the hose alone, you can use a small wooden dowel inserted into the end of the hose to press the new bulb into place.

Seeing the socketed sets on Ebay through me off a little. I had previously replaced one lamp but I cannot remember where I purchased that one and it is a bit brighter than the others. I'll see if I can find the bulbs you suggest using.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I have been active on forums.corvetteforum.com for some time. Just recently discovered this forum. Good people.....both sites!
