hi i have a 1986 coupe and want to replace my exhaust i have been looking at cat back sys from borla, magnaflow and flowmaster all are 2.5 in i want increased proformance but want to still be able to pass state inspection any suggestions ? all 3 are close in price is one really any better then the other ? thanks

I have had a set of Flowmasters on my car since Nov. 89 (It was one of the first set of Flow's for a Vette ;) ) The mufflers are rotted out now internally and I too have been thinking of replacing them...
I was thinking about the Magnaflow sys. (Cat back 2.5") as it is stainless as opposed to the aluminized Flowmasters.
I would NEVER consider putting a set of borla's on my car after hearing a few C4's w/ em they sound like CR@P!!!! (esp. if your car is an automatic)

Any cat back sys. will pass state inspections w/ out prob's...
Hope this helps *89x2*

I'm getting ready to replace the system on my 87 and am going to go with the Flomaster Force II cat back system. It comes with a 3 inch Y pipe and the mufflers. Zip products has the system for $499. Thats $100 cheaper than Ecklers or anybody else I found.

thanks for the responses i wish i found this site along time ago tons of great info here

Flows, do

I was very pleased with the Flowmasters, of yore. They and the TRACO long tubes made my car jump.

Now I've redone all with the TPIS head-to-taillight system, which includes new Flows. OMG, does it sound nice and does it exhale!

I found no reason to switch from what was working.

I have the Flowmaster system on my 88'. It really gives you bang for your buck. I went with it because it cost less than the stainless steel systems. I do have the stainless tips so it doesn't look bad when I clean em' up.

It really rumbles and I've gotten compliments for the sound quality.

side pipes

ive been waiting 3 mnts for my exhaust to come in,,,,,,,,,,,will be here today or tomorrow.......its a side effects side pipe cat back system which looks killer and sounds great and passes all legal stuff.........cant wait to install it.............lou

This summer I replaced the entire system with 2.5 stainless front y, new freeflow cat, and a cat back from Borla with twin 3" outlets on each muffler all stainless...

I have had nothing but compliments on how it sounds...nice low growl at idle....great sound through the gears and wide open is music to my ears. Cost a grand for the whole system, but it is nice to know I will never have to replace it.

I started out with Borlas but changed to Flowmasters these are the best I have come across yet

I installed the Flowmaster Force II on my 86. I really did not want to spend lots on a cat-back exhaust. I was very pleased with it.
It's a quality system that sounds great and won't drain your wallet. I got the Y-pipe and mufflers for less than $370 from SummitRacing. :D

THANKS EDMOND. I SAW THAT C4FAN WAS LOOKING AT PURCHASING HIS FLOMASTER FORCE II FOR $499.
I SENT C4FAN AN EMAIL WITH THE WEBSITE AND PART NUMBER WHERE I BOUGHT MINE FOR MUCH LESS. HOPE HE GETS IT IN TIME. HE CAN GET IT THERE FOR ONLY $356.95 AS COMPARED TO $499 FROM ZIP! BIG DIFFERENCE IF YOU ASK ME. I GOT A GOOD DEAL ON A SET OF 1992 RIMS THAT I GOT ON MY CAR NOW FROM ANOTHER VETTE OWNER. I WAS REALLY HAPPY. JUST TRYING TO HELP ANOTHER VETTE BROTHER OUT. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE WELCOME EDMOND!

whichever one you pick should be solely on sound, the catback has no real influence on emissions
