1987 RPO Code for "engine delete"

I understand - maybe it is even a legend... four of the 1987's were "engine deleted" by an RPO code - anyone know the RPO Code or why??

I have a hunch, but would need to compare to one of the cars if I knew the RPO code first...

Thanks :m

I wonder if this may have been something along the lines of the old COPO order codes where some dealers could ask the Central Office for very specific combinations or perhaps deletions that would not otherwise be available.

I do remember that certain color combinations had to be a COPO order and I would think that an "engine delete" would be possible if a dealer had "pull" or if it was for a race team that might have had some corporate backing. IIRC, a Vette could be ordered in primer with no paint color selection as a COPO request.

An engine delete wouldn't really make a lot of sense as an order option. Would a car like this still get a tranny or would that have to be a delete option too?

If the car didn't have a motor, I don't know how the tranny would be able to stay in the car. Doesn't it use the motor as support? When I had my motor pulled I wanted to trailor the car back to my house to clean/detail the engine bay while the motor was out, but they said They couldn't move the car since they did not pull the tranny with it.

Chris, I found the following code on the Team ZR-1 site: 8Z1 : ENGINE, DELETE

There's billion codes for the ZR-1s, but none specific to the C4 regular production Corvette.

Ken - Thanks

I think four 1987's were "eng. deleted" cars - On a mission... :ugh

Huh. My book shows 8Z1 as being engine delete FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES. Wondering if that means that you drop the gas engine in favor of an electric one, or if you HAD an electric vehicle then this is the delete code.

FWIW, 8Z2 is transmission-delete...
