in my newly purchsed 89 coupe, the check engine light comes on as well as a low fluid light. i have put the car in storage for the winter months now and have not driven it or taken it to get it checked, but the previous owner said that he had it in a garage and they couldn't figure the problem out. what is the problem - the engine is fine and all fluids are full. is it something i can fix or should it be taken to a garage in the spring??

first off, which low fluid light? are you talking about the low oil light?

second, you need to get the code off the computer. Either buy a code scanner from your local auto parts store, for about $20, which comes with a book to tell you what the code means, or ground it yourself and tell us the codes so we can tell you what they mean.... Most C4 problems can be fixed by the home mechanic (and i use a very loose use of the term mechanic:) )

Fortunately, most C4 problems can be fixed at home. I think that's the great thing about American cars in general. The thought of something going wrong with my Toyota really scares me because the dealership charges $79 to plug the OBDII up!:eek

I'm no mechanic myself, but I'd rather try it than run to a shop and pluck down $60/hour for labor.:cry
