Hey everyone, my name is Ryan to start and I have a 1990 Steel Blue Vette. I just traded my 96 WS.6 for this car and have been flustered around the issues with it. Perhaps someone here can help me? I was throwing many codes before, but here is the update.
I am thowing code 42 , Electronic Spark Timing (EST). In the manual it says possible cause is the PROM or ECU failure. But today I just drove it for an hour straight... and I know the car goes into whats called "open-loop" (When the car reaches operating temperture, and the PROM takes over engine management), I think I am about to answer my own question here... but the Service Engine light only comes on when the car enters open loop! DO you think it may just be the PROM?
Also.. On the LCD speedometer and all, when the SES light goes off.. the lcd will flash "SYS" and I will lose my MPH, and mpg etc settings.. is that related to the prom failure or could it be the Central Control Module, the CCM throws code 41?
Also lastly, my vette has the FX3 ride control which the service light it on too. Odd thing though is EVERY code is on. I read on research that with a Hi-Power inigtion it will do this. I have a complete Accel setup. all but the distributor itself. Would this cause that? Cause I have felt the motors all around and feel them turn for each selection.
any help would be great! I have only been able to enjoy the car 1 solid day for the past month!
