Where can i buy a manual that describes the anti theft system? I don't know if it is factory, or aftermarket. The red door jamb lights constantly flash, whether it's on or not. I would like to know how to check it out.

Did you read the owner's manual? That's where I would start from. As for the door jamb switch, you may want to use some unti seeze spray such as WD40 and and press and let go the siwtch a few times just in case there is a bad contact there. I did it once and it worked for me.

First, welcome to the CAC!! You'll find lots of good info here and very nice folks.!!

The factory alarm did not come with any "flashing red light on the door jamb" This indicates some sort of aftermarket alarm system. You may have to hunt around for the control unit. Typical places may be under the hood in the wells in front of the wheels or sometimes in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. Look for a box and a small horn.

The factory system has switches for the doors and the coupe rear hatch. There is a "SECURITY" indicator at the lower left side of the curved part of the instrument cluster that will flash when the doors are open (assuming the factory system is still working.

Lipps54,

The owners manual only mentions the security light on the instrument cluster. I have sprayed the switches on the jambs before. I don't know if the lights are supposed to flash, or not, all the time. The system still goes off when i open it wrong, so i know that it works yet. I need some instructions, and facts, about the system itself, so i can get it checked out, if i have to. I brought it to a corvette sport shop, in my area, and he thought it was an aftermarket system. How do i find out who installed it, etc.?

Unless the previous owner left the manual to the alarm system with the car when you bought it, you will have to find the controller unit to see if the brand name is on it. Clifford is a popular brand name, but there are other companies that make aftermarket alarms. Can you contact the previous owner to find out if that person was the one who had the system installed and where it was done?

Most alarm systems have a flashing light that is visible when the system is armed. When the alarm is deactived, the light should go off.

If the system is working properly, I would just leave it as it is. Unfortunately if something goes wrong with it, the only way to be able to get into the car or to start it may be to completely remove the system from the car.

Thanks for the information. I'll try and track down the original owner, and find out from him. Ray
