1992 Green Coupe
Hi everyone, This is my first post, but I have spent many hours reading through old posts. I recently bought a 1992 Green base coupe with the ZF six speed and 125K miles. I want to prep it for track use this winter, but still be able to drive it on the street. So basically, I would like to get some feedback on my current plan. Below is a list of part / changes that I am thinking of doing.

Current condition:
Interior stripped out
Spare tire, tub, and jack removed
New MSD Coil
New Delco ICM
8mm wires
New Fuel injectors (two had failed)
new fuel filter
Codes: module 1 >> H25 module 4 >> H26, H36

The plan:
spark plugs (ngk??)
Optispark (msd?? whats best for track use)
Electric Water Pump (is the meziere worth the money compared to Jegs or other)
Canton Road Racing Oil Pan (any other options?
Is the stock oil pump good or does that need to be changed also??
Poly bushings (current ones are shot prothan or energy?)

Front and rear spring are frayed so I am assuming that they need to be changed.
Shocks are also old and probably need to be replaced
Many options so any input would be greatly appreciated
Is this a good option http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...~S3VP0LYKU998209133750c~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50000050F

Brake ducts
cooling fan and water pump manual override switch
Cut air box

Any advice, suggestion, or general feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks all

Those are all history codes. Clear codes and road test. If they reset, diagnose and repair per the FSM. If they don't reset, don't worry about them.

spark plugs (ngk??)
Optispark (msd?? whats best for track use)

I'd put Denso IT-22 plugs in for track use. MSD distributor is a good choice. To me, electric water pumps seem more of a drag racing item. For for track use, think I'd stick with the OE water pump or an Edelbrock. Forget the Canton Oil Pan for now. Initially, I doubt the car is going to generate enough lat. to need it but, do look into an engine oil cooler because you'll need that before you need the racing oil pan. Once you get the chassis modified and run sticky tires, then think about the road race pan.

Can't speak to those springs because the spring rate is not listed but, here's a good starting point:
88-91 Z51/Z07 front spring
85-95 Z51/Z07 rear spring
Z51/Z07 front bar.
Either of the two Z51/Z07 rear bars depending on chassis and driver style
QA-1 double adjustable shocks.
Global West Del-A-Lum bushings up front, spherical bearings in the rear
Alignment Lots of negative camber and lots of caster in the front. If all the front end parts are in good condition zero toe. -.5 to -1.0 camber in the rear. 1/32 in toe-in per side. Then, adjust alignment from there.

Brake ducts
cooling fan and water pump manual override switch
Cut air box

I think you're better to stick with the engine driven water pump and alter the fan-on strategy in the calibration.

Thanks for the reply's.

In response to Hibs post

The codes are recurring.

The Springs in the link from my previous post are the Hyperco springs with 660lb/in front and 326lb/in rear which is what you recommended.

The kit has the following parts for $1600 ($1923 if all parts bought individually)
2-574044 Bilstein Front Shock with Z51 Coupe
2-584026 Bilstein Rear Shock with Z51 Coupe
1-574649 Front Performance Hyperco Spring (660lb/in = Z51)
1-584164 Rear Performance/Track Hyperco Spring (326lb/in = z51)
1-574063 Front 32mm Tubular Sway Bar
1-574642 Front Poly Control Arm Bushing
1-574653 Front Spring Lowering Wedges
1-584102 Rear Spindle Control Rod Poly Bushing
1-584126 Poly Rear Spring Cushion
1-584153 Rear Strut Rod Poly Bushing
1-584196 Smart Struts
1-584215 10" Rear Spring Bolts w/Nuts

+26mm rear bar (~250)
Total $1850

Or I could get:
The two Hyperco springs (660lb/in frt. 326lb/in rear) 2X400=$800
32mm front sway bar ($270)
26mm rear bar (~250)
QA1 double adjustable (~270*4=$1080)
or
QA1 Single adjust (~170*4=$680)
Total (with QA1 double) = $2400

32mm front sway bar ($270)
26mm rear bar (~250)
Total $2820

32mm front sway bar ($270)
26mm rear bar (~250)
Total $2220

As for the rest, I will take your advice

Cost is definitely a factor in my decisions.

Any other things that I may need/want to do to prevent damage or part failures?

Thanks for the help and any input is welcome.

The QA1's are good drag shocks, I don't see anyone running them for auto-x. Bilstiens are good, but a set of Koni Sports would be best. They are setup for the Z51 springs 88-91 and work with the 92-95 Z07 cars just fine.

Camber settings will be determined by tire selection. Hoosiers like more, streets less so for example.
I am running -1.4 in the back about the same up front with stock bushings,etc....
As much Caster as you can get. Stock toe setting in rear, zero up front.

Auto-x setups are different from track setups but what you have in mind is a good start.

Don't forget to corner weight the car. The rear leaf spring adjustments make this easy to do.
Also, you may NOT want to loose the spare tire, etc...I put mind back on, as it balances the car better. Get weight OFF the nose.
