I have a 93 convertible ...the top is in excellent condition, however, the edges CURL UP near where they meet the deck.

Does anyone have any suggestions as regards how I might improve the situation short of replacing the whole top.

Thanks,

Rod.

I know what you are talking about. In my opinion, it is not the best design and lends itself to what you are seeing at those 2 points near the deck lid. What I do is make sure that the small velcro circles that are there are clean and free from any lint. Try to ensure the best contact that you can with the velcro areas.

I find myself also pressing down on those corners after a drive in order to try and "train" them to stay down. There is not a whole lot that you can do about it. It seems to be another one of those "trouble spots" that could have been better thought out before the cars went to production.

What about cutting a 1/4 inch hole in the corner of the top to insert a heavy gauge wire. (Such as a coat hanger gauge of wire) this way you can bend and twist the top to the way you want it. Then simply stich the very small hole shut. (you could also stick of rubber/plastic ends on the wire to prevent problems)

Just an idea I had while reading this.

curled top edges

Ramrod, If you raise the back of the top and look directly under the edge on either side of the top (where it is curling), you will see that the top material is pulled up and over a rigid piece of material that forms the bottom of the top. What you can do to alleviate some of the curl is to unglue this part of the top and repositon the material in a tighter fashion around this rigid part. reglue with a good cement and clamp overnight. This will help a great deal. Make certain that the rubber gasket is tight against the deck when the top is up and even though the curling doesn't look the best (the back is usually o.k.) it won't leak.

Curling

Thanks ...I try this and let you know
