Can someone tell me if a 93 Convertible Vette had Cloth or Vinyl as the original convertible top material.

Does anyone have opinions as regards which may be the preferable material?

I am considering replacing the top and see that a cloth material is more expensive. I am looking for something durable and easy to clean ....

Thanks.

Soft Top

There is a Service Parts Identification Label on your car on mine a 91 it is under the floor console door I don’t know if they are all in the same location.It will list all your RPO code numbers (options) vinyl may have been an option in 93.If your car is ruby red I believe it only came with the cloth top.Mine is a soft top and the book list vinyl as an option.

Most of the vinyl tops I have seen on C4 roadsters have been white. Beige and the Ruby Red on the 40th Anniversary car have all been cloth. The black tops I've seen have been, for the most part, cloth but I have seen some vinyl ones that may have been replacements.

I would assume that GM used vinyl to make it easy to keep a white top clean; white cloth would be a real PITA to keep clean!

I like the cloth top as it makes the car look more classy. My 92 still has the OEM top and it shows very little sign of wear. When you get the new top, go for the 94 and later-style glass rear window. It has a built-in defogger and the wiring harness is in the car so it just has to be plugged in. Beats trying to keep the OEM clear vinyl window clean and scratch-free!!

If your car came from the factory with a white convertible top, it was indeed vinyl. If your car came from the factory with any other color top, it was indeed cloth.

black = cloth
white= vinyl
beige= cloth
ruby red= cloth

'93 was the last year for the vinyl rear window. '94 and up convertibles were outfitted with glass rear windows and defrosters.

If you are looking to save some money, you can purchase vinyl in place of cloth. I have seen black vinyl tops on C4 Vettes, and in my opinion they do not look nice. It's up to you. :)

PS - Do not be concerned about the durability (or lack there of) of cloth tops - mine is the original top and it is in excellent condition even after 10 years.
