My security system and transmitter will work for a period of time and then quit working but after a period of time start working can you give me some ideas of where I could check out to fix it

Try a new battery in the remote first.
You can also try resetting the PKE transmitter. The procedure should be in your owners manual.
I had some problems with mine and got tired of dealing with it so I pulled the fuse. Mine would work when it wanted to and turn itself on and off.

PKE

Yes I agree with replacing the battery then reprogram it. It's only takes a few minutes and it might work. Otherwise a new fob is something like 40-60 bucks.

On the 94' I believe it has antenna's in both doors, so isolate to see if it works from one side vs. the other. (93' the antenna is in the drivers' door.)

If you don't have the procedures these are them:

1. Make sure the radio is off.

2. Place the transmitter (fob) 10 feet or more away from the vehicle.

3. Turn the ignition to the On position.

4. Push the trip/odo button twice.

5. Within 5 seconds push and hold the fuel/info button until the PKE light on
the driver info console comes on and stays on.

6. Turn the ignition to the Off position but leave the key in the ignition. The PKE light will come on and begin flashing.

7. Bring the transmitter (fob) into range. When the system recognizes it the PKE light will stay on solid.

* if you have a second fob make sure it was out of range and bring it within range.

8. Remove the key from the ignition or turn it On. That will reprogram them.

The diagnostics cover about 10 pages in the maint manual. So hopefully one or the other above fixes it.

Just went through this scenario myself. The GM dealership can check your remote to see if it is functioning.DON"T I repeat DON"T
buy a new one from them. They are around $150. Most likely the problem is the battery in the FOB as stated in the other replies but you may have the system disabled also. The owners manual will tell you how to enable and disable the system. Also, you have to hold the key fob in a downward angle on approach to the car. The Fob will quit transmitting a signal if inactive for over 30 seconds or so. That means you have to take it out of your pocket/purse within 7 or 8 feet of the car to get it to unlock the doors if you have been away for a short time. The system is nice when it works but is a pain when it is messed up. If you are disgusted with it just disable the system and use the key. Right now mine works great but I am sure it will give me fits in the future. BTW I had to re-program my system 3 times before it all worked right. Maybe I did it wrong but at least it works now.

I wasn't aware of the positioning of the fob for it to work properly. Of course I don't look of how it sets in my pocket, but I've never had any problems there I get close and it opens. More than likely the fob goes in my pocket first with the keys following so that would put it with the top facing towards the ground.

Hmm, interesting.

Yea the dealer part is very expensive, mine didn't have one when I bought the car, and they told me oh about $30. yeah right when it came in I owed them something like $60 plus dollars. Then I saw it later in Ecklers for half that price. As always screwed again by the dealer. Hmmm, you wonder why people distrust and dislike dealers so much.

Good Luck... Lani
