Question: 1995 Brakes was there a upgrade

In 95 the J55 brakes (13" front) became standard equipment. In previous years the J55 was an option. I can't believe that that's worth that kind of money.

My 94 has the J55 option, I bought Hawk pads and drilled/slotted rotors off Ebay for $280 and installed them myself.

way way too high.

If nothing else is broken, he's charging you about 400 dollars for
around 1 hour of labor, if he's slow. :W:W

A good brake man could do it in 30 minutes for both sides.

Is your brake upgrade to J55 or was it upgraded to C5 calipers/rotors (bit more $$)? I don't think the price is too unreasonable for rotors, pads, and labor. Keep in mind, we find this stuff cheaper cuz we have time to search. Sounds like your mechanic just went to his every day, go-to parts supplier. Nothing wrong in that. If he spent all his time searching out the best price (instead of doing the job), he'd never make any money.

my list:
1. if you have to ask you don't have a clue about doing it now...
2. you took it there, trust him?
3. it should also include fluid flush for entire system for that price.
4. unless it has trashed rotors they don't need to be changed.
5. it's your money, you could buy all the tools and manuals for that price.
6. brake pads are about the easiest thing to do.
7. you need to start looking for a newer vette, it to old to pay someone else to work on.

A brake job on a C4 is so simple even a caveman could do it.:boogie

Sorry, couldn't resist...still though, 700$ for a brake job is outrageous, I'd want to see a cost ticket for how he's coming up with that price...although odds are it would be simply out of curiousity more than anything else before leaving his shop and going somewhere else to have it done. (then again, I do my own anyways, other than bleeding the brakes, it's not much more to it than changing a tire!)
