That's the exact number on the original battery that I just pulled out of my GS. Now, the question is...is that exact part number still available? I assumed that the correct original number would no longer be available, so I stopped at my local dealer and he sold me the ACDelco battery that his listing shows as being the correct replacement: a 75-7YR. It's the same size, physically...and it's rated at 700CCA, whereas the original was rated at 650CCA. Also, the labeling looks different ("ACDelco Professional" in much smaller lettering) and, while it has no sight glass for checking the charge level like the original does, unlike the original, it has flush-fitting removable caps for electrolyte checks/maintenance. This last feature proved to be invaluable, as after I brought it home and fully-charged it with my wall-cube Battery Tender, I pulled the caps to check the electrolyte level...and found that four of the six cells had been grossly over filled. I corrected the levels, but if I had just gone ahead and installed it as the parts guy recommended, it probably would have spewed at some point...permanently soiling my otherwise pristine GS. I'm not going to install it until I'm satisfied that the correct original-type 75B-72 is no longer available and is not being reproduced by someone else. Does anyone know what the situation is here?
