I cannot get the PKE light to illuminate at all! I have checked the bulb by switching it with other bulbs and it lights up. I took the dash/console apart and unscrewed the DIC unit from the dash but left the wiring harness connected to it. Looking at the plastic curcuit board, I traced the wiring harness to where it plugs into the DIC unit itseft. Then followed the curcuituy to the "PKE" light bulb. There are 2 wires that go to the bulb that light up the "PKE" indicator in the DIC. One is a solid orange and another is a little smaller orange wire with a thin black stripe. Using a test light I checked to see if there was any power going the copper contact where the light bulb twist in to the DIC. The larger orange wire has power going to it, with the ignition on, and lights up the test light. However, if I take the test light and touch the copper contact of the smaller orange wire with the black stripe the "PKE" light bulb lights UP. Then I did a reverse test light test. I took the gator clamp of the test light and clamped onto a positive wire and then touched the copper contact of small orange/black stripe wire with the test light point, NO POWER.
Now when I bought this car it did not have the remotes with it. I did buy a brand new remote. I have checked the fuses with a test light, they all appear to good, batteries are new, I've tried every instruction provide as to how to program your remote. I've disconnected the car battery and reconnected. I've pulled fuses. I CAN make the alarm go off by leaving the window down and reaching in and manually unlocking the drivers door. I wonder if the system was turn off with the original remote and if so, how do you turn it back on without the original remote? Also does this system have any relays that can malfunction?
Can someone shed a little "light" on this concern and help resolve the problem?

Thanks

Did you do a thorough search of the interior for a fob. There have been a few cases where a fob was under a seat, etc?

When you say you checked the fuses, there are 2 for the PKE system # 26 & #40.
#40 also powers the radio so if that is working it's ok.

You can check the PKE diagnostics by grounding pin 4 to 8 on the DLC & counting the flashes on the DIC from the PKE light. If it flashes you'll know it's working.

If it flashes count the flashes which will translate to a code. Do you have the FSM for 96?

This is from my 95 FSM, hope it's the same for your year.

If you have another key, also try that.;shrug

Thanks for responding Rabbit

I did check the car thoroughly for another remote. I took the seats completely out. Radio and power antenna works fine.

1) If the system was turn off and I don't have the original remote, how do I turn the system back on with a replacement remote?

2) When you say grounding pin 4 to 8, how do I know which pin is 4 and which pin is 8?

3) Do I just use a jumper wire?

Can someone email me a wiring diagram for a 1996 convertible LT4 with reference to the PKE system?

This site will explain the procedure for using the DLC to check for codes. You have a 16 pin DLC. Numbered, left to right, top row, 1 thru 8. Bottom, left to right 9 thru 16.

It takes a little practice, but you shud be able to interrogate the PKE system & hopefully find out what's wrong.

The site above does not list PKE DTC'S, so if you get any, post them.

Normally the system is turned "off" using the remote. I believe you can only activate/deactivate the system using a programmed remote?

PKE system

Well finally found the problem. The module in the dash was bad. Imagin that, A Corvette with a bad module. I can't believe it.
