I just purchased my first ZO6 yesterday 2002, unbelievable, I traded in my 97 auto coupe, theres just no comparison. It looks like it has a modded exhaust, and is extremely loud, but when i got underneath to take a look, its just straight pipes with tips, no mufflers at all. Does this add more horsepower than a modded exhaust?. To be honest, its a little loud for me. If I do purchase an aftermarket exhaust, what is the best one? I'm just so glad to join the ZO6 gang................

new Z06

Congratulations on your new Z06. I also traded in a '97 A4 for a 2002 Z06. It is a very different car. I have the stock exhaust system and I like the sound of that pretty well.

I am sure that others can address your questions better than I can, but this is what I think. The way to get significant power increases is to do the intake and exhaust at the same time. It is a 1+1=3 kind of thing. Does your car still have catalytic converters? I understand that they cause much of the flow restriction. Someone who totally removed the mufflers might also have taken the cats. Do you know how this car was driven by its previos owner?

Congradulations.

Go burn-one in the parking lot for us CAC members!

Good questions, I dont know, as I havent got all the way underneath, I can probably get it lifted up later on this week, to take a good look, the engine, however, including air intake is all stock, whats a good air intake? they all seem to be about the same hp increase 15-20...

Congratulations on your new car! I had a 99 A4 and loved it but the Z06 certainly is a different car.

FWIW..I think the stock Z06 exhaust is capable of producing the same power as most aftermarket exhausts..

If your looking for a nice exhaust I'd suggest going to a local corvette club meeting to decide. I've personally heard the corsa tourings and like that the best with an x pipe but it is a few pounds heavier than stock ti system.

I had the corsa indys on my 99 without the x pipe and after a year I thought they were too much like a motorboat at idle.

The stingers are cool sounding but a bit too loud for my use. z(I take my 7 year old son whose handicapped and he can't tolerate motorcycle like loudness)

I'd buy a used set of corsa tourings if you want an opinion.

As far as intakes go...???? I feel the Halltech TRAP is an excellent choice for the Z06 since it requires no cutting and puts the filter out of the engine bay but protected by the radiator shroud ..and looks cool in Red.

Thanks for your replies, actually, I went down to Corvette Mikes yesterday, and bought a Bassani x pipe and a slightly used Borla stinger exhaust, should be installed by tonight. As far as Air Intakes are concened, I saw a poll on the 'Corvette Forum' site in which most people liked the Donaldson, followed by Halltech and Vortec. Corvette Mike doesnt carry any of these, so I'll check out West Coast Corvette today, and make a decision. By the way, I BMW M3 rolled up on me this morning, I was very impressed with his acceleration, but he just got toasted..... this is gonna be so much fun.........

Congrats!

Post us some pics when time permits!
