Still having problems with my 2 x 4 WCFB Carter Carbs. I borrowed a friends carb from a 56 Chevy Wagon and bolted it up to my motor. I runs awesome! As soon as I put one of my carbs back on (both have recent kits installed) I get all kinds of popping and sputtering and even flames in the carb. Does anyone know a good Carter Carb guy who can do more than just install a kit and tell me if the jets, meters, bleeds, passageways, castings or whatever are bad :confused
Thanks all.

I haven't used him, but I understand Dick Katter, 701-754-7547 (VA) is the guy to restore Carters.

When you tested, were you only using one carb? (I don't have answers, I'm just trying to understand how you compared your friend's single carb with your two carbs). If using one at a time, then apparently whatever you did wrong (or whatever the flaw in the carbs or the kits) was the same on both.

Hey Wayne. I tested one carb at a time. Blocked off front carb plate. Both carbs act the same. Could be common problem. I double checked everything but maybe I am overlooking something obvious. I will call Katter. Think I have heard the name before. Thanks much.

While we are discussing 2x4 carbs, I have a friend who needs a 59 wcfb without the choke. Any one know of a source?
I talked to RD Katter today as referenced above by Wayne. I think he has allot of Carter stuff. You might want to give him a call. Don't know anything about his prices. The phone number above is incorrect think the area code should be 703?? I'll check later when I get home.

I had 701 in my records, but apparently that is in ND so it's incorrect; 703 is in VA.

Thanks again Wayne

Alas! progress. Got one of the WCFBs working tonight. I pulled the metering rods out of it and it ran very well but also very rich. But I think I am on the right track. I'm going to order new jets and rods tomorrow and see what happens. I think what is in there now is grossly mismatched and is choking off the fuel supply. :beer
