I am trying to replace the stock shift knob on my 2000. I can get the plastic cover off but can't get the metal key out to unscrew the knob. The key is like a block. From what I can tell it may have a slight indention on both left and right sides. I have tried to pull it off with plyers and pry it up with a screwdriver with no results. I am trying not to be to forcefull so I can reuse to stock knob.

Hi there,
If you reference the attached, you will see a diagram of the shifter knob, key, and top plastic insert.
You are right, the 2 indentations under the key, are what you pry up on. I use a large hook to pry it up.
I know its hard, but it will come. Use a rag underneath the screwdrivers, when prying on the knob.
I hope this helps, c4c5:hb
