Approximately two weeks ago, I bought a 2000 roadster with 15,000 miles from a used car wholesaler. I noticed the telescopic wheel was not working so I took it in to the local Chevrolet dealer here in Tampa. I stopped in this afternoon to see if it was done (it has been there for two days) and was told "we don't know what the problem is"..."some kind of serious electrical problem"..."maybe multiple electrical problems". He also said, "not sure if waranty will cover it"..."may be because of a wreck or something someone put on the car and took off". Does this sound correct - or am I getting "jacked around"?

Hey neighbor,

I don't know where you took the car, but someone in this forum said that Ferman on SR60 in Brandon used to be a good place to take your vette, as they had a couple of dedicated to just Corvettes.
(think I am going to try them when I need service).

Did you run the VIN through CarFax?
Is the title rebuilt or something?

That would be a good indicator that the car had been wrecked in the past.

Did it run alright, and it was just the wheel?

By any chance to you check the computer and see what codes were showing? That would be a help, there are some people here you know what they are talking about (as apposed to myself) when it comes to stuff like that.

Do a search for C5 codes on google, that will yeild a bunch of good reference material.

It is at Autoway Chevrolet on Hillsborough Avenue. The car ran great...the only thing not working was the telescopic wheel. The guy I bought the car from said he had ran the Carfax and it was "clean" ... "never been hit" ... "not a rebuilt or salvaged title". I did not see the report myself. He did say the car was a "GM buy-back car". He said that was due to a noise in the rear end - but it was fixed. He also said GM would add one year, bumper to bumper warranty because it was a "buy-back" and that nothing was noted on the title. I had never heard the term "buy back" and the thought of having an extra years warranty along with the fact I could not hear any rear end noise - I bought the car.

If it is a manual tranny the rear end noise is a normal sound. Buy-back sounds like it might have been either a lease? or possibly a lemon buy back. Mind you I am no expert. However, if GM added a 1-year bumper-to-bumper warranty it sounds like it should be fixed with no problem.

I had a prob with the telescoping also.

Turns out that some wires were rubbing and shorting out upon movement in the column.

Took it to my dealer and they fixed it...but not without a major ordeal...

...see my "Nightmare at the dealership" post from last year.

Good luck!
