It is with regret that I decide to sell the car that I have had for four years and enjoyed more than any other car I ever owned, bar none. I need $33K for it--not much room for negotiation. I can't justify keeping two Z06s registered, insured, and don't have the extra garage space--so it is currently in my shop, with car-cover.
I bought a new 2006 Z06 and kept my C5 because I wanted to see if the new car is really any better. Well, for $72K it had better be, and it is, but not dramatically so. Tell you what: the C5 Z06 is very close to being just as much fun as the C6 Z06. The C5 Z06 is MUCH more fun than the C5 Coupe, and is even more fun than the C6 Coupe is. (My wife and I have owned all of these and I express these opinions after extensive side-by-side testing.)
My 2002 Z06 is mechanically perfect, except that the center console door sometimes doesn't want to open smoothly. The only changes from stock are:
1) CAGS (skip shift) eliminator
2) Steering lock disabler, and
3) Stainless steel "Corvette" lettering on the back fascia.
It has about 16,000 miles and has brand new Eagle F1 Supercar (stock) tires.
It has never been in an accident, or even a fender scratch.
It has never been pulled over and ticketed!
It has had oil changes earlier than recommended every time.
On the down side:
It doesn't have "new car smell" anymore (but it has never been smoked in).
It has small paint scratches from a cat jumping up on it, and 'haze' behind the wheelwells, from sand on the road.
It had a day at the dealer for a passenger side power window problem--fixed.
Click on the pictures for enlargements--Thanks for looking!
