I remember Car And Driver TV tested the 2002 ZO6 and got a 12.4@116 MPH and a 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. What have some of you ZO6 owners got with your cars?

Just wondering, Jason Mcclure

12.4??? that means we lose to ricers! how can that be? thier cars finish around 9-10.5!! (then again, they run NOS, if i corvette had NOS, it would probally finish at around 6.5-7.5 :bu)

I have run 11.79 @ 117.54 with mine. I have drag radials and a Vortex air box.

A friend, Ranger, ran 11.61 @ 120.+ with his Z06 with drag radials and a Halltech Tric.

Cool weather is making the difference.

Ditto to what Steve said... the numbers/video is located on the Z06 forum. BTW Steve, and Ranger great numbers!

So the Z06 is pretty acceptable to mod huh?

I've read some numbers and I tell ya, they vary so much you don't really know what to trust.

You're right on about the numbers and performance stats on not only the Z06, but most car test in general. Keep in mind the way it's usually run: the car arrives, the select magazine writers/drivers line up for their chance behind the wheel of each car. They drive them to evaluate several basic performance parameters, and if they are lucky the weather cooperates for the day they have the respective car. So at best, each driver probably doesn't get much real time behind the wheel to play with the best launch techniques, braking techniques on the track, or other "techniques" that may make the car deliver better performance than what they initially get.
On the other hand, the people that own them (any performance car) and is driving them almost everyday, have, through playing around, discovered the optimum parameters for each type of driving. Therefore, those are probably the true "potential" performance characteristics of that particular car and drivetrain.
I have through daily driving and the occasional spirited driving found more potential in my own car than what I thought it had during my initial driving experience. For example, the first time I hit the rev limiter it caught me really off guard... and I lost a lot of time in between shifts when this happened, now it seems like the RPM is in slow motion as it goes through 6400 and I can get a really good shift in everytime between 6400 and 6500. Rarely ever hit the rev limiter now, because I am more aware of the rate at which the RPM leaps up toward the redline. So in a nut shell, the car made me a better driver of it, simply through familiararity.

pilot,

One thing that I have learned is not to trust the magazines on performance numbers. I've read numbers from the magazines and independent testers and I would have to side with the independent testers more because I think they would be less likely to be getting paid to advertise. Such magazines like Motor Trend, Car & Driver are fine magazines, but I think they sometimes play with their numbers because it's a fact that manufacturers spend millions of dollars a year advertising in their pages.

Finding traction on a 200 or 300hp car is a lot easier than a 400hp high torque car like the Z06..

It takes time for a driver to get the most out of a car like this..

The magazines don't have time for this..

Some would say that would be an equalizer..I'm not so sure..

The higher the performance of the vehicle..the harder it is to learn to launch for best times...

thats why the et's on many hi po versions of tuner cars look strangely close to stock..yet the trap speeds tend to be way high..JMO from what I've seen reading..

Edmond and JBsC5,
You both hit the nail squarely on the head.
You have probably noticed in many car mags the many ads for foreign cars and aftermarket products specifically aimed at them. Then read the reviews when American cars are pitted against the major manufacturers that are heavily advertised. See a trend there... I thought so. Remember the reviews of not too long ago of the Z06, BMW M3, and several other high perf. cars? The Corvette was downgraded for not having a back seat.... the type of car most heavily advertised in that magazine... you guessed it.
Well, that's my two cents worth this morning. I guess I kinda rambled off the main topic but you get the idea.

Sure you don't mean 1/8 mile?
