2003 convertible noisy lifters

noisy motor. car started cold there is a valve train noise. if the car is revved to about 2000 rpm for 30 seconds the noise goes away. after the car idles for a while the same noise returns. car was taken to chev dealer once and was told this is "normal", however 6 other 03 cars started never made noise. sevice manager explained it as piston "made" to fit loose. i quoted service bulletin #02-06-01-038 found on this site and was told this does not apply to this car. there is only 6000 miles on this car and it has had 2 oil changes.

anyone else with same problem or with a solution or do i go back 2 more times and lemon law?

thank you

I would try a different dealer and if that dosent work call customer assistance. You may have to call more than once since they give your problem to an investigator.

this car is in and was purchased in the detroit area at buff whelan chev. salesman that sold the car was there when the car was in and listened to it and said the car sounded bad. service manager was not willing to admit it sounded bad. i did report this to gm the same day. the car is going back in on moday6-23 03 for a reevaluation.

I would take it to Les Stanford Chev. They have a much bigger allocation for Corvettes and better people to deal with Corvettes.

HI there,
I would suggest the following.
First, a mechanical oil pressure test, with a gauge and adapter mounted in the oil filter location. While anything is possible, the basics should be checked.
Vacuum of the engine, to indicate if there is a lifter issue. Oil pressure, to make sure correct pressure is had.
DTC in the PCM to make sure that there is not something else causing this.
There is no possible way for me to make an accurate assessment, without being there personally.
However, basic checks still apply to engine mechanical noises.
Theory is moot.
Correct diagnosis per GM guidelines is critical.

well same old bs. car has piston slap,so buff whelan chev says. this car belongs to my sister who is a M.D. in detroit. ithink this is the problem---she is a woman. another fact that should be known is thati am a retired certified master mechanic and i know valve train noise when i hear it. it is very possible to have oil pressure and no oil to the valve train, so the oil pressure theory=no valve train noise isn't always so this is bunk! the service manager said all corvettes do this and told my sister he would take a new one with 0 miles and make it sound the same HA HA he couldn't do it after1 hour of driving, he gave up.
next stop is les stanford chev and the third time to return for the same problem. can you say LEMON LAWand HELLO DODGE VIPER!!!!!!!!!

Like i said before Buff Whelan doesnt want your business so take it some where else. I have a 2001 very early build and it has piston noise when cold but is quiet when its warm and no valvetrain noise run like a scalded dog 12:98 @102 and its an A4.
Keep us posted on results.

my 97 has no noise ,at no time, no matter what. it runs like a top and is a great car. it has 54,000 miles with virtually no problems at any time. i can speak with some knowledge of corvettes. my sister has owned four of them and i owned three of them and none of them had this valve train noise, so therefore i KNOW tht this is not normal. will keep you posted on les stanford diagnosis.

thanks

Car goes back to buff whelan as per gm " to do a battery of tests" today. will keep posted on diagnosis

after 2 trips to dealer with nothing wrong all of a sudden it is a piston noise that is coming from #7 piston.

the cure is to remove the engine send it to a specialty shop to measure all pistons and all bores and fit the largest piston to the largest bore and so on. they will not hone the block or install new pistons. i was also told they will not knurl the pistons and would not allow this anyway. WHAT A JOKE!

we offered gm a buy back pay mileage and purchase a new corvette but they don't want to do this.

very disgusted in the treatment after purchasing a $52,000 plus car.
