2005 GTO or C4 Corvette?

GM had their GM In Motion auto show here in Atlanta. JRMaroon and I went and were able to test drive almost any of the 2005 GM cars we wanted to, including the C6 and the GTO.

The GTO, IMO, had only one thing going for it. The engine. The lines are not that strong and it just felt cheap. For similiar money you can have a 275 Acura TL, which feels luxurious. While not 400 hp the overall package is much better.

It would be sweet if the GTO's looked like this . . .

There is a lot of nice cars out there...The GTO to me looks like all the "other cars" on the road. IMO...No character! No comparison to the C4. :w

Instead of a Grand Am on steroids, that just looks like a Cavalier on steroids.:L

I was driving to work this morning and was passed by a brand new Black GTO. The guy was zipping in and out of traffic, and I got to thinking. 400 hp, a 6 speed transmission, and a back seat all of the sudden seemed real appealing. Was I having a momentary loss of my senses? Would a 2005 GTO be considered an upgrade over a C4 Corvette (regardless of model year)? Just wondering what everybody else thought.

My opinion it's no more then a engine swap and some new panels for a already dieing breed of Grand Am's The Vette is the best choice and nothing come close.
The choice is clear.... Sorry that's my take :)

I had a 69 GTO back in the day and that car was nasty. Sorry I let it go, but oh well. I think the 05 GTO is a sad example of what the car used to represent - Muscle.

Mustang had the right idea by bringing back some of same lines and characteristics of the mustangs of old. What happened to GTO. It looks like a rice burner with a big engine in it. It doesn't even have a threatening look to it. I guess for someone who's too young to remember the old muscle, it might be a good car and I'm sure it is. I just can't look at it and associate it with a GTO. I know it's my opinion, but sorry, not makin' it.

Could't agree more. I owned a 69 Judge, my third favorite car, behind the 71 Grand Prix, and the Vette. Lotsa home runs bein' hit here on the GTO. They wrecked it just like they wrecked the Grand Prix when they downsized it and lost the lines. That's why the new Mustang retro is the smash hit. They updated the best parts of the car.

GTO or CORVETTE

The GTO would be a good grocery getter for the wifey but---
There is NOOOOOOOOOO comparison.
If somebody offered to trade a brand new GTO just off the lot for my 75,000 mile silver '86 C4 , I would turn them down in less than a heartbeat.:D

Just my .02 centavos, Jammin Jeff :w

You guys are nuts! I would take the new GTO over anything GM's got out now except the C6 or a late C5, if she's gonna be your daily. If we're just talking toys, it's a whole different story.

I'll take my daily drivin' LT4 over that GTO any day of the week and if one ever pulls up beside me and wants some, well....he's toast! :bu End of story!

I can understand the need for a "grocery-getter" but the GtO isn't very attractive to me, (jes MHO), it'll drop 10K in value soon as it leaves the dealership, will NEVER handle like a sports car, and is an Aussie sedan to boot.

When I needed a "get around car" I stuck close to home....the Porsche does it all, but without the smile that the LT-4 brings.

My $0.02

edited to add: above 4,000 rpm the Porsche DOES bring a smile.

I'd buy a classic GTO before I bought one of those reguritated down under Monaro's. This car is as boring as shoe polish. You can't tell one Pontiac from another. GM is probably going to throw in a SSR with the GTO as an incentive next year.

Pontiac=Action

Gto is nice and seems great to have, it would be a nice daily driver it could proberly keep up with the best of them. Wait no a corvettes the best so theres no way it is with the best of them
