Question: 2008 C6 cracked dash board?

Has anyone with a new C6 had any cracks or tiny tears in their C6 dash board? I have had my 2008 Coupe for 10 months bought as new and I have now noticed a sort of hairline rip/crack about 3/8 inch long just above the passenger air bag location. It is almost invisible unless you are staring right at it. But since I know about it, it bothers me.

I am going to take it into a dealer to get the whole dash replaced. Has anyone had a bad experience with dash replacements...you know... creaking and sweaking and missalignment etc...? It has to be done, but I'm worried about them causing more issues than eliminating this one.:confused

Hopefully the dealership will be able to install the new one just like the factory, but it probably won't. I don't remember when the dash goes in, but in all likelihood things go in after so it will be more work and maybe not as good as factory. But you are right, you don't have much choice.

Well, life isn't that bad. I could almost live with it. I love my Vette...it ain't going back.

keep an eye on it if your not getting it replaced those cracks usually get bigger and im sure you dont want to be replacing it after the factory warranty runs out.

Depends on the guy working on it and the dealership. Dashes are fun to replace, I'm not familiar with C6 dashes but I'm sure its a pain in the butt. Most techs don't like warranty, especially work that they WILL loose there butt on, like replacing a dash. Keep in mind Flat rate means you get paid a certain amount no matter how long it takes you. Warranty stinks, I know for a fact, I'm a Ford Tech. I always try to do a good job, but I cant speak for anyone else.

Another issue you might have is proving that the crack was indeed there since the car was new. Normally, all new cars are put through a new vehicle inspection to make sure the factory didn't screw up anything. I'm guessing here but depending on the dealer you may have an issue with getting something like that replaced, b/c if you cant prove its a defect, then it could have been done by you...techs have to prove defects for warranty or we and the dealer don't get paid. Have to go by the book with crossed t's and dotted i's to prove something wrong. At least that is Ford, might be a reason why they arn't bankrupt, that and they dont pay squat for warranty work. Ever hear where they get those super short warrenty times compared to normal labor rates for the same job???

Yeah, :coolThat's what I am afraid of. But I think this defect is so subtle that anyone could have missed it. I'm going to wash and vacuum the Vette so it looks like new...then they won't think I'm an abuser. I really do take care of this car. We'll see what happens. I'm aiming for this coming monday to have the dealer look at it...then hopefully they order a dash on the spot.
