2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray wins ‘Best Performance Coupe’ at MECOTY

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray – which boasts the greatest efficiency of any sports car in the market – won in the ‘Best Performance Coupe’ category at the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Award. The event took place on 20 November at Dubai’s Meydan Beach Club, Jumeirah Beach Residence.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with SAE-certified 455 horsepower and 624 Nm – and 460 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 630 Nm at 4,600 rpm, with the available performance exhaust system. It is also the most capable standard model ever, with Z51-equipped models able to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 3.8 seconds and achieve 1.03g in cornering grip.
The new Corvette Stingray backs its performance capability with the greatest efficiency of any sports car on the market, delivering an EPA-estimated 13.8 L/100km in the city, and 8.1 L/100km on the highway with the all-new seven-speed manual transmission. No other car offers more than 455 horsepower and greater than 8.1 L/100km highway.
The all-new Corvette Stingray shares only two parts with the previous generation Corvette. It incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs.

MECOTY guarantees an unequivocally transparent nomination and scoring process – developed, tested and implemented by the region’s top motoring experts. MECOTY’s acclaimed jury panel – comprising 14 of the Middle East’s leading motoring journalists and commentators – selected the winning 2014 Corvette Stingray model based on a strict five-point scoring system. Scoring parameters included Design & Quality; Handling and Drivability; Safety & Durability; Performance & Capability; Technological Innovation; Emotional Appeal & Driver Satisfaction; Value for Money; Comfort & Practicality; Environmental Friendly; and Regional Appeal.
All nominated vehicles were test driven by the jurors to ensure precise scoring.
