Once again, 2020 Corvette production will come to a halt, but this time due to COVID-19 related issues with the Mexico supply chain.

According to the Detroit News, 2020 Corvette production will be halted this Thursday and Friday as a result of new coronavirus restrictions.

GM issued an alert earlier today and the Detroit News was able to obtain a copy it.

This comes on the heels of the week long shutdown that started on October 12th due to another COVID-19 related supply issue.

Unfortunately, this is good news for some customers that have been waiting for over a year now to take delivery of their 2020 Corvette. With the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant shut down tomorrow for Veterans Day, the three day shut down will prevent approximately 540 Corvettes from rolling off the Assembly Line this week.

Production is scheduled to resume Monday, November 16th.

“Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not run production on Thursday, Nov. 12 or Friday, Nov. 13," GM spokesman David Barnas said in a statement to The Detroit News. "We expect to resume normal operations on Monday, Nov. 16.”

The alert doesn't specifically state what Corvette parts or area of Mexico was affected, however the northern states of Durango and Chihuahua have moved into a red alert phase due to an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

According to Jack Bowers, president of the UAW Local 2164, something happened to the supply chain down there, but the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant should be able to resume production next week with the startup on Monday with two shifts.
