This is the stock size tire on my '86 and they are getting hard to find. The Tire Rack only shows one all season tire. The Yokohama AVID V4S. I need an all season because I do drive my car year round. I don't take it out when I expect snow or ice but I do drive it when it is close or below freezing. I was all set to go for BFG G-force sports but they are a summer tire only and not recomened if the temp is close to freezing. The rep at the Tire Rack said that below 40 degrees they get very slippery. I had never heard of this but I guess that is modern technology and and the componds that make the agressive summer tires work so good don't work in the cold - darn it.

Anyone using these Yokos? Anyone know of any other all season 255/50-16s?

I want to stay with the stock size for now and I'm about out of tread on my current set of shoes.

Thanks

I have the Falken ZE512's on my car. They are an alright tire, and I'm getting decent mileage out of them. I doubt I'll buy the ZE512's again though. I'll go with a summer time tire because I just don't drive mine when it gets too cold, and they don't come in 315's (I'm planning on getting some 11" wheels for the back and I like my tires to match).

Have you looked at Rikon Raptors? Made by Michelin (I think). I put a set of these on my Bonneville they seem to be a decent tire.

VERY, VERY true for most modern hi-perf tires...they also ride bad at lower temps.

I would not buy the falkens, have got those for my mark 8 and they were terrible. they are a cheap tire, they vibrate and have little grip, so on a corvette :puke.

Yokahama makes a great tire, they wear fast but are a good tire. I would use the g-force, when its 30 degrees it is usually slippery anyway and would simply drive a bit more careful. PLUS ONCE YOU GET car up and running, the tire heats up, say on the highway and will become more sticky, just depends on your commute and if you can behave for the first 15 minutes. The g-force might present one problem in snow, but are great in rain. You get good snow performers and when summer comes the tires will get you recked if you go real fast.;help

I run Goodyear eafle F1 d3 all year long, mainly because thats all I can get in 315/35/17. I changed rims becuase od tire selection and performance. Goodyear even offers the eagle f1 all season which is for snow in 17, your very limited in 16 inch tires.

I would check Ebay or google the goodyear 255/60/16 in the eagle hp and there are some left out there, be careful of age and staw away from the eagle gsc. Good Luck:W

I have the Yoko Avid V4S tires on my '84. For the price you can't beat 'em...they kick butt in the rain, will pull a full lateral G on dry asphalt, and have the highest treadwear rating I've ever seen for a tire that size (500!). Only "issue" I've had is that at normal pressure the rears will wear the center out quicker than the outsides (this happened with my last set of "cheap" tires also)...so I run the rears about 5 lbs lower than the fronts for normal highway driving. I wouldn't know about snow or cold weather...no way this car goes out if there's even a hint of a possible snowflake!

I'd buy 'em again in a heartbeat.

I have the Yoko 255-50-16 on my daily driver '95 Caprice Wagon. I really like them ! Quiet, smooth, handle good in rain, but I switch to 15" rims for the winter.

For winter driving don't expect any 50 or 60 series tire to do much below freezing.

Ive used 225-70-15 front and 255-70-15 rear on my '69 Vette BB and the Caprice for non-summer driving for years. They work great even in bad weather.... and they ride good. Old school look.

Thanks everyone - I'm going with the Yokohamas.
