275 width tire fit a wheel with a 255 tire on it?

I have a 1980 with 255 60 15 tires and wheels. Will a 275 tire fit the rim OK?

If you have the stock rims, the 8" width is too narrow for a 275 tire regardless of the aspect ratio. For example, the Hoosier A6 275/35R15 minimum rim width is 9" with the quoted tread width was measured when mounted on a 9.5" rim.

You would have better luck mounting a 275 tire using the appropriate C4 17 x 9.5 rims; however, this involves using spacers, extra long studs, etc. and may be more money than it's worth. YMMV.
