I was wondering if I can replace the 2.73 stock rear end gears with a 3.73 ring and pinion or do I have replace the whole differential....also do I have to change the torque converter too?? Mine is a stock 4ATransmission

When changing rear gears you should use an LS1edit device to allow the computer in the car to know when to shift. I would recommend working with an experienced tuner ...

The changing of the complete Carrier is not that hard but again..I'd suggest paying someone experienced..

YOu do not have to change the torque convertor but probably would as it gives the biggest bang for the buck and you've already got most of the labor paid for when changing the rear gears..

I recommend the Yank 1.6 str 3500 stall. I drove that combination years back on the street and it drove like a stock car and was totally civilized till you hit the go pedal hard..

I was impressed with the combination of 3.42 gears and SY 3500 w/str 1.6.

upgrading the 2 series case internals is much more difficult than on the 3 series case. I only know of one Corvette vendor that actually does re-gearing of 2 series cases.
And since the R&R of the C5 rear carrier is such an involved process... I wouldn't take any risks or shortcuts. It might be best to just buy a complete new carrier.
