the day was nice enough today that I could take the '64 out...first time I was really able to do that since I got the side pipes on her......sounds GREAT....but....sometimes when I am getting on the gas it sounds like the whole engine is coming down through exhaust, like a huge clunk or tow, then it goes away and I hear the sweetness of the exhaust again....not sure what it is...car has about 80,000 miles and it is the original engine....so not sure if there is something bad going on inside or what....through if I could take the car out and run it through its paces again, and record it with my digital camera (in the movie mode) that perhaps I would be able to sort through the noise with some help on here.....when the car is cold and not up to temperature it doesn't run worth anything, does a lot of hesitation....is that normal? Has all the original stuff including the distributor.....comments or thoughts?

thanks!

Have you considered a tune-up?

Car only has about 300 miles since the tune up...but the other posting I have everything seems to be running much better now that the heat riser gizmo seems to have straightened itself out.....right now, what ever is wrong has gone on to visit someone else....I don't really want to mess with it....she seems to be running real good now.....

My opinion, which doesn't seem to be shared by anyone else is that your choke has been hanging on or you have been doing numerous short cold starts and fouled a plug(s). Sometimes when this happens, you can get the plug(s) firing again by driving. You can foul a new set of plugs in just a few minutes with a stuck choke.

I once drove a car for about six months that had the heat riser flipped upside down. That will cause it to stay shut and not open. I'm ashamed to admit it took me that long to find the problem but I never experienced any problems except an evident loss of power.
