The 383 short block showed up today Ya.

I took it apart I dont want to go though what I did with the 355 short block 3000 miles and have to pull it back out again.

First they told me it going to be a roller Block well it has the bosses for it but not drilled for it.

I either going to do that my self or I have a machine shop do it I have to call one and see how going to cost before I let a machine shop do the work.

Back to the Block I took it a part to a bare block it was full of oil after i got it a part I cleaned out ALL the oil passageways the crank had some grim in it not a lot but I did not like it.
There some scracthes on the main bearings very light marks on it. that inclues the cam bearings i looks like it had a cam it it once before.

The bores looked alright honing looked okay also.

At least this block was not sleaved.

After I get the block tapped for the OEM roller cam set up I put back toghether and stick back into the car.

I did E-Mail the company that built the short block and told them they should take a closer look at there QA and make sure there motors are clean before sending them out for sale.

1 thing you must keep in mind the poor guy must likley build couple motors per day and he not going to look at everything you and I would building our own motors up.

If he gets paid piece work more motors he pushes out the door more money the person makes.

I sure he cares but not we would building our own from the ground up, they just grabing the parts off the rack and putting them togheter.

Scrub Scrub Scrub

Man this motor dirty inside.
I sure they hot tank it but not scrub it clean.
But like I said before when you build your own you take more time to make sure it where you like it.
I should done this with the first motor.

Today

Installed the crank rods pistons, Drilled and tapped the bosses for the roller cam set Up.
The new cam and other odds and ends should be here tomarrow So I should have most of it in the new motor so I can put back into the car this Sunday with any luck.
I would taken some pictures but I dont have time This is kind of a push to get done project at least get the motor back into the car.

It's in and I am beat

Installed the Oil pan Cam complete Valve train Heads Intake all the senders.
I found I need to space the water punp out to clear the 2 Pc timing cover, and have to order a new timing mark my old one will not work with the new HB.primed the oil system.
Tomarrow I put the rest of the intake on wire it up put on the valve covers.
Then wait for more parts.

Between saving some more money to finish the Vett.
Taking the family on vacation, Trading the Truck in for a Land Rover and trying to find extra time.
With any luck by the end of next month I be able to drive the Vett once again.

Hang in there dude....it takes time. The longer it takes, the more ideas come your way.

You'll get there :beer

I'm actually excited to see how this turns out, do you need a new PCM/ECM to run the 383? I'm assuming it's electronic fuel injection, don't really know strokers or engines very well so that's why I ask

Chipped

I have a performace chip from my old 355 motor same heads intake and exhaust, I turned up the fuel pressure to turn my 24# injectors in to 28.5# injectors and went to a LT4 GM Hot cam raised the compression from 9.5 to 10.5.

I have read others that say you can use the Stock chip and it will run.

I planning to get running first with the chip I have now after a while I get a custom chip made.

I going to pay off my transmission lay away program so I should see my New trans in a couple weeks.

So all I need is a Starter and trans fluid, Throw the battery on the charger.

The funny thing about this it started out as a starter going bad, and as long I had to pull the headers off to change the starter I put my hotter cam in the 355 when I found the 355 was bad.

And as long as I had the headers off the car Put a good trans in the car.

Work a couple more weekend OT rims and tire I just mite put a C-5 big brake kit on the car.

More parts

The new transmission is showing up today With any luck I have stuffed in the car this weekend.
I should up and running next week Ya me.

If you've got any questions about the capabilities of your OEM (or modified) stuff, such as your ECM and whatnot, C4C5Specialist is the man to question.

Stuffed it

The Transmission is in now waiting for the new starter it should be here this comming monday I cant put the right headers on yet until the starter is in.
I think it can be done with the headers on but why fight it.
I also have to Fab up a new EGR exhaust tube thing go from the headers to the intake.

It sure sounds like you're having fun! :cool!:

The Fun will start once it's running and stops costing me lots f money LOL.

But the good thing is I found out on the last rebuild what I didn't like so I changed things around this time so I should be happyer this time around.

I have a high preformace chip now for the old 355.
I read other say it will run ok with the stock chip set yup.'
But I planning to order a new chip for the new set up end ofd this week after payday.

I also read with the stock chip and 350 it will still pass Ca Smog So I should be good excepted for the headers but I was told my headers have all thje smog stuff on them lot place will over look the heads we will find out in September LOL.
