I know this has been asked over and over, but I can't seem to search beyond 2004. After the OD button is off, what is the trick to getting the knob removed from the shifter? Thanks.

Take the cap off...you will see a T-BAR ...pull it stright out with a pair of vise grips...then screw the handle off.

Jon, I think you may have something wrong there. Granted, the original poster didn't say what year vette he had, but by mentioning the button I think he's got a later than 85 model. The T-bar UNSCREWS, and you need to count the number of turns so you can get it back to the same height. That's what the OD button attaches to. There's also a wedge that needs to be pried out first. Pair of needlenose pliers works great for that.

What? I gotta interpret here or something? :L

Okay, the overdrive button (switch) was located on the console for '84 & '85 right, then it moved to the shifter knob in '86 - correct?

So what year model year Corvette are we talking about, because you're both right! :CAC

My 85, (maybe it's a late 85), has the switch in the shift lever, not the console.

To remove the knob, pry the button out of the knob using two real small screwdrivers at the back of the button. You don't want to break the little clips that are on the pivot pins in the knob off!! Then, screw the "t-bar" which threads into the switch down below, out of the switch. Count the number of turns it takes to remove it. Nice to know when you put it back. Once the "t-bar" thingie is out, remove the key at the back of the knob. Once the key is out... thread the knob off!!

Ron ... :beer

Yeah Ron, I should have said that in mid-year '85 they went to the shifter with it. :o

its an 85 coupe, I plan to tackle it tonight. Thanks! must be a later 85 then, since the OD is on the knob.
