8 speed 4+3 trans.

Has anyone tried the overdrive mod that is talked about in the book "101 projects for your Corvette" by Richard Newton? Page 68 Project #24.

He says that by unpluging the 2nd gear overdrive switch and jumping the terminals of the switch it turns the trans into a 8 speed manual overdrive trans. instead of the auto overdrive once you hit the button. You can even start in 1st gear overdrive or 1st & 1/2if you want.

I was curious to know why the switch is jumped and not the harness plug. What does jumping a powerless switch do? Seems like you'd jump the harness.

It'a a GREAT mod if you want to have an early burnout of your OD. Believe me, I have first hand experience :-(
