I asked this question under a differant topic but would like to through it out here. How hard would it be to change out a four speed in a 1965 to a powerglide and keep it looking original. If anybody has done this and can give me an idea of the cost Id appreciate it.

Well haven´t done it personally.....

....but know a guy that has done it reverse on a C3.

At the end.....center console needs changing to auto look, Frame has a screwed in crossmember (as you cannot mount the tranny without removing this) and a different length driveshaft.

Kickdown assy to carb is a rather small item then.

Changing from a welded crossmember to a removable is helluva work...but doable.

Maybe there are some options to leave the crossmember as it was....see if there is someone here who has done it.

I have seen a 66 with a TH350 lately. I do remember that the shifter was specially adopted (because of height) but have no clue about the crossmember...

Crosmember does not need to be changed, all midyears use the same frame regardless of trans, no bolt in crossmembers, all welded in.

Powerglide conversion would need, Trans, console, shifter, linkage, brake pedel, trans lines and trans cooler. when using a glide ot a TH350 driveshaft is the same as a 4 speed.

Unless you have to have a powerglide I would use a T350 or a 700r4. I have put both in midyears, and it can be done while retaining orig appearance. T350 is easy, 700r4 a little more work.

If you need parts, I have a shifter, several consoles some linkage and a trans cooler and lines. I am one of the nuts who likes the automatic cars. had a 700r4 in my 67 roadster for 7 years now, great milage, great performance, easy to drive anywere.

Dennis thanks for the reply. Ive just bought this car and am picking it up today. Iam going to probably get with you later about the parts ect. that you have. I was looking for a clean automatic at a good price with no luck. This was to nice of a car to pass on just because its a four speed. Anyway thanks again and Ill be in touch.

I believe that most of the componets need to change over are available from sources like Corvette Central. The transmission is the same as used in the full size cars except for the shift linkage arm that is bolted to the transmission. You will have to find an original or fabricate it.

Well if It hadent hapened to me I wouldnt have beleaved it.Like I told you guys earlier I went to pick up this car today, had it put on a lift to inspect it, the frame was rotten. It wouldnt be so bad but if you have followed my posts from earlier this week I had to walk away from a 1962 for a bad frame last week. Both cars were beauties but when you have to factor in a new frame the cost can climb real fast. Like I said in the posts about the first car its like a beautiful woman with a bad set of teeth. Anyway Iam back to looking.
