I need some help on this paint.
My freind purchased a vette and would like to paint it with the 40th anniversary color, Ruby Red code 68 in the corvette black book. The problem were having is that nobody seems to have this paint code, we even went to our local GM dealer and they said it dosen't exist. does anybody know which paint supplier would have this.

Thanks

Craig

look under ppg auto paint on the web--they show (2)--one is ruby red oem code 79 ppg code 2-1518 ---the other is oem code 79 ppg code 51769---don't know why there are two--hope this helps

I'll check it out with our paint supplier.

I also went onto the ppg web site but could find where to see the paint codes.
can you post the link.

Thanks

Paint color number dispairty.

The number disparity isn't so much as to the color but the chemical mixture of the paint. Like in the old days you had enamel and lacquer, well it goes even farther today, with urethanes of one and two parts, and clear coats. In certain parts of the country only certain types of paint can be used, with limits of VOC.
Thank your local politicians, PETA, Green Peace and Tree Hugger for this.

Any auto paint supply store should be able to make the correct color if you give them the GM paint code 68 and the vehicle description. Finding the right WA code should be fairily easy as it was for 1993 only, Ruby Red, 40th Anninversary color. Most colors of auto paint is mixed from a variety of coloring tints in the same fashion that house paint is mixed at the local Home Depot.

Some body shops will have their own mixing equipment and other will order paint from an auto paint supply house. One thing I have found is that the name given to the color by GM may not always be the color name used by paint companies. My 92 Vert is painted GM code 45 "Polo II Green Metallic" but in the paint books it's simply called "Medium Green Metallic" and that color was also used on Caddys. It may be pretty hard to say if the 40th Ruby Red color was ever offered by GM on any other car in a different year using a different name, but you can never tell!

here's how i found it--logged on to msn--www.ppgcarpaint.com---no.1 is "auto paints back to the year 1928 fully indexed"----go to "colors"---next to "corvette"type in 1993---page 2 will be "ruby red" with the codes

forgot to mention--click on the code number & you will get some info about the paint

Thanks alot, we have a paint supplier close to us that has PPG paint.

Thanks again.

Craig
