5.7 Tuned Port Injection Engine Question

Paul,

CAC is a great place to make friends with "good people who own Corvettes". Mine is 95 LT-1 and I placed "5.7 Liter Tuned Port Injection" label on my car. I love it... I also like looking at ZR-1's, LS2's, LT4's. Now the 7 Liter LS7 monster is coming out with 500Hp on the C6 Corvette.

Stay away from people who judge you with what you have or do not have. It is the heart & soul that you need from a friend. As long as we threat our cars as a hobby (rather than a status symbol) we will be alright. There is no end to development and spending more and more and more for cars. Enjoy your baby.

Cheers,

Selim from Turkey

P.S. Hey, is your friend on CAC??? Talk him into getting registered to CAC and let us know what his nick is. We will get even with him here in our own ways... Ken may not like this idea :) but I will try my best dude... :beer

I know they didn't come from the factory}, because that is a crappy engine and you wouldn't want to advertise it.
Thunder is a TPI. A TPI with an attitude but still a TPI.:cool

IMHO The L98 is the best starting point for a hot-rodder. For a very few $ she will give you 350 HP with out sacrificing low end grunt. How many engines out there will give you a 40% power increase for so little $?

Have a look at MadMic´s post to see how much you can gain with out even taking off a valve cover. He must be around the 300 HP mark by now.

It is almost like the General was saying ¨Hey look we’ve got the EPA and Insurance companies to keep happy so we will de-tune this beast, sell you a world class sports car for 30K and let you decide where to go from there.¨:BOW

When I bought Thunder I was looking for a toy to hotrod. The 2 Vettes on the list were the 71 LT1 and a 90 or 91 L98. Thunder came along at the right price with a 0 mile balanced and blueprinted engine, beefed up 400R tranny and a Dyan44 W/3.08 gears. I stuck the TIPS bigmouth base and runners on, did some porting and exhaust work and she produced right at 290 RWHP on the dyno.:upthumbs

The only street-fight Thunder ever lost was to a Porsche C4 on wet pavement. (4 wheel drive is hard to beat in wet.:cry)

Now with the 383, heavy duty springs & shocks, beefed up brakes, improved exhaust, Z51 rack and Pinion, the HI-flow cats I put on yesterday to pass inspection and everything else including tires I have less than $13000 invested in a 450++ HP, Porsche eating, Audi farting, BMW belching, Ferrari teasing beast.:Steer

So if your so called buddy does not get enough spankings from the likes of Hib, Whale, Ken, or the ZR-1s send him on a European holiday… I will be glad to show him what 0 – 100 in 10 seconds feels like as well as the eerie feeling of a C4 at 165+ MPH on the straight-a-way a the local track. (Be sure that he brings a change of underwear!:eyerole)

Hmmm, I wasn't aware "tpi" was such a bad thing. I owned a camaro w/tpi and loved it. So much so that I took on a whole new attitude towards GM. (that was my first chevy) The engine would flat get after it and got great gas mileage to boot!

Mine still says "Tuned Port Injection." ;)

I'm pretty sure mine does on the black trim behind the front wheels, and I'm pretty sure it came like that from the factory. I sure as hell never put any stickers on her...

He is truely not a vette guy per say I guess. I for one love any, and all vettes. Find new friends is my vote too. Strap a few mods on there, and he wont be doing to much bad talking ;)

The author of this thread is speaking of the aftermarket emblems (I think) ... ;)

yb.dll

What I am speaking of are decals that are on the car not emblems. I like the way they look and I am leaving them there I've decided.

I'm sure that's what Ken was talking about, he was just referring to them differently.

5.7 is still a pretty big motor if you ask me!:D Who knows, it may even deter a few would be challengers!:D

I'm fairly new to this forum just having bought an 89 Vette with the 5.7 engine. A so called buddy of mine has a 96 LT4 which I know is a faster more sought after car. This guy really never has anything nice to say about anything that is not his. Anyhow, he is looking at my car, telling me how clean it is, then says " I would take of those decals on the side that say 5.7 Tuned Port Injection Engine { I know they didn't come from the factory}, because that is a crappy engine and you wouldn't want to advertise it. Is this true? I have seen no mention in the forums of this. He kinda bummed me out a little, that is why I am asking you guys if that engine is problems. Thanks Paul

What a jerk. I am no engine expert but I drive an 89 with a rebuilt L98. As far as I know it is a fantastic reliable motor. Mine went to 230,000 miles be it and the tranny were rebuilt! I am an older Buick enthuisiast and have had my fill of 455's and Buick 350's which are great motors but have their own issues (oiling problems) but my L98 is one of the best motors I have ever owned. Enjoy your fine car!

Ken, I have been looking everywhere for emblems that have the Z51 logo on them. Where? :confused

Sorry! Didn't mean to highjack your thread, potter. :)

TIA
Gordon :w

Mid America, Ecklers etc... sell the emblems like the ones above.

Vette buddy

Hey Paul,
I'd print this thread and make him read it! He'll get the message!

Surrrrre... its such a crappy engine that hot rod builders search through salvage yards and ebay looking for TPI parts.

I have buit a TPI motor from scratch. It tends to run out of steam at 4.5k to 5k but has gobbs of torque. You can swap out the more restrictive parts for Accel, TPIS, or Edelbrock components. Or, you can modify the heck out of an LT1 manifold.

TPI motors can support up to 400hp. Tell your friend (if you ant to give him some of his own medicine) his car has a crappy distributor (Opti-spark is notorious for moisture related missfires).

You have a great car. Your "friend" is a braggart.

Actually, I couldn't find that image at Mid America, I had to go to Corvette Central. (They're not one of our supporting vendors. :o)

Well....that'd be too easy, wouldn't it? Better I beat him with the ratty old Malibu station wagon I own. Ok. It's not stock. :) One of my favorite kill stories about that car is in this month's Hemmings Muscle Machines.

That's a GREAT story, Hib... I just got on board with HMM, and was pleasantly suprised to find you there. :)

AS to the "friend" who looks down on L98's.... with friends like that, who needs enemas? ;)

Good for you!

Not only is that guy not a true friend but he isn't even a true Vette enthusiast. A true enthusiast doesn't trash another Vette. With that attitude, I'm sure he doesn't belong to a club....Maybe he got kicked out of one...Hmmm?:L
