I apologise if this doesn't belong in this forum, but I just saw an article in the Sunday paper stating that only 185 of the 1953 Corvettes were sold because of their original price (about $3,700).

1) Is this true?

2) Does anyone know how many are still around?

I saw that too. The price sounds about right, but I'm quite sure they made 300 '53 model year Corvettes.

All 300 were sold, but only 185 were sold during the normal 1953 sales model year; some sat for quite a while on dealer lots. It was quite a sight to see 40 or 50 of them all lined up on Monday next to the original '53 Corvette assembly building in Flint during the Solid Axle Corvette Club National Convention. Several owners drove them 800+ miles from the east coast (and back home again)
