6 speed problems

Hi folks, I'm new on this forum and have a question for you.
I have a 99 hardtop with 6 speed tranny that is very difficult to
shift from 1st to 2nd, especially when the transmission is cold.
It's not the 1 to 4 lockout, it just sometimes won't go into second.
Sometimes it feels as if I can't find the gate from 1st to 2nd.
There's no grinding or anything like that. Could it be the linkage
or the syncronizer? Help!!!
Thanks,
David

Welcome

Hi there,
Well, I have some questions, first, how many miles on the car??
What is your vehicle identification??
Did this just start occuring, or has it been this way since new??
The syncronizer assemblies have an inner, and outer friction cone, which takes as long as 5000 miles to correctly bed in to the mating surfaces.
Please let us know, and welcome to the CAC, c4c5

C4C5,
Thanks for the reply. I bought the car with 10,000 miles on it from
a dealer in Atlanta. It had been issued to a GM exec instead of being sold at a dealer, so I am the first "titled" owner. The car now has 45,000 miles. The ID# is 1GYY13G6X5107474.
This shifting problem has beengetting steadily worse since about
38,000 miles (of course right after the warranty expired). As I said in the first post, it is most prevalent when the transmission is cold, but sometimes happens when it's warm. I hope this helps in your diagnosis. Thanks,
David

More questions

Hi there,
Ok,now, are you making sure that your clutch is all the way to the floor???
I wouls suggest that you first change your tranmission fluid. And they drive it for a week.
When you are having the transmission fluid changed, please have them do a shifter adjustment, per GM service documents. It should take about a half hour. These should be your first steps, then we can proceed.
Besttoyou, c4c5

I'll make sure the clutch is all the way to the floor. I put floor pans from Mid America in about the time I started having this trouble. Maybe they are preventing full travel on the clutch pedal. I'm due for an oil change so I,ll get the trans serviced also.
Thanks alot,
David
