Hi guys,

I'm new to the Corvette scene and have a question about a Pace Car I will be purchasing soon.

The car is a 6-speed. I notice when I shut it off, there is a rattle coming from the transmission. The salesman at "Corvette Mike's" said that its normal for the 6-speeds to make that noise because of where the transmission tube is located.

Is that true? or is there something wrong with it. Other than that, the car runs great only 20k miles on it.

It's normal but it shouldn't make the noise if you shut the car off with the gear in reverse. The owner's manual suggest you always put the car in reverse, then shut it off. Just remember to keep the clutch disengaged!:D

Try this. If it still rattles, have it checked out.

Also, it will rattle the same way when you pull off in first gear. This is normal also. It's the transaxle throwout bearing at it's best. Nothing you can do about it.....just the way it has to be to be able to withstand the power.

Hope this helps,
Kenny

I responded to this same post in the C6 Forum.

Good luck!

Thanks Kenny! I should be picking the car up next weekend.

My 90' model does the "shutdown rattle". I didn't know what it was but I'm going to try shutting it down in reverse. Thanks for the info.

The dealer told me that only the 6-speeds do it.

Rick

Correct. Only the manuals have the rattle.

Glad I could help....hopefully it's the solution. Good luck on picking up your car! Congrats in advance!:v

it doesn't even have to be in reverse to avoid the noise. as long as you have the clutch pushed in, regardless of whether it's in gear, the noise shouldn't happen. it should only happen when in neutral with the clutch engaged.
